The Vikings dominated the North Star Association Champions, the Blue Hawks of Dickinson State, on November 25 with a score of 28-3. Jackson Waring passed for a total of 202 yards and four touchdowns. While Avery Gates led the ground attack with fifteen carries for 61 yards. The defense only allowed 12 first downs on 56 plays, keeping the Blue Hawks to one field goal the entire game!
The next game will be played on Saturday, Dec 2, at noon at Duke Williams Stadium to compete in the Quarterfinals. The Vikings will play the College of Idaho Yotes (11th-seeded). The Vikings hosted the Yotes in 2019 for the first time, winning 14-6.
As we are continuing this playoff journey, we are asking for your financial support to accomplish many things within our program. The added cost of the playoffs, from hosting games to feeding the team over the holidays is a great problem to have! Our main priority is to take care of our student-athletes. We want a true first-class experience for the players at Grand View, with all the tools necessary to compete on a national level.
After a great week of practice and rejuvenation, the playoffs have arrived! The players earned a first-round bye in the new NAIA playoff format, and it was a good time to get back to basics, focus on the details, and fully charge our batteries. After waiting a week, we know that we will be hosting Dickinson State out of Dickinson, North Dakota on Saturday, November 25 starting at noon. The Blue Hawks are the champions of the North Star conference and won a hard-fought matchup against Montana Tech in the first round. Now they get to travel to The Duke!
It is an honor and privilege to have been with this Viking football team since the program's inception. It has been amazing to see the growth of the program and share in the successes with all our student-athletes who have made us into what we are today.

Dear Viking Family and Friends,
The Rock and Ladder trophy is staying in Des Moines! It was great to see our guys take care of business and finish strong in a gritty, 35-6 victory over William Penn. Not only did the game on Saturday secure the trophy for another year, but it secured the CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP as well. This senior class is now one win away from going undefeated in regular season contests for their careers.
To achieve this amazing feat, we will be back on the road for the regular season finale at Clarke University. Right now, all of the team goals that were set back in August are still within our reach and control. We have one more chance to improve before the playoffs, and we look forward to the challenge. Looking forward to seeing as many fans as possible in Dubuque!
Our plan for this fundraising campaign is:
Since our first season of competition in 2008, we have won a National Championship and 11 Conference Championships. We have produced 26 AFCA All-Americans and over 100 All-Conference performers. We are extremely proud of the tradition in place, and we are constantly striving to take it to another level.
With your help, I know we can get it done together!
Thank you,
Coach Joe
...On the Road at William Penn!
Thank you to everyone who showed up at The Duke to honor our seniors last Saturday. Not only did you get to pay tribute to an amazing class, but you got to see a great game and a dominant Viking win, 45 – 0. With that win, these 29 seniors capped off an UNDEFEATED career at home in the regular season. Thank you to an amazing class and thank you to the friends and families that have supported these men along the way. Our goal is still to play a few more games at home this year with these guys!
Also last weekend, on Sunday, the young guys in the program capped off an undefeated Varsity Reserve season winning 53 – 3 over IWCC. They were dominant throughout the game, and this group’s physicality was on full display. I can’t say enough about the competitive nature of this young group and their desire to help this team get better each week.
Coming up today, we have a short trip to take on William Penn. Both teams are undefeated in Heart North play, and the winner of this game will likely be the conference champion. Rivalry games are always fun, and we don’t plan on letting the Rock & Ladder Trophy stay in Oskaloosa for more than a few hours. Kickoff is at 1:00, and we hope to see everyone there!
What a great week for Viking football! Thank you to everybody that made the trip to Lamoni and absolutely PACKED the visitor’s side. Once again, you guys have proven why we have the best fans in the country. The weather was perfect last Saturday – maybe a touch windy – to watch a great win for Grand View. We dominated in all 3 phases of the game and came away with a 52-14 victory.
Up next is another conference showdown against Peru State on SENIOR DAY. Peru has certainly found their footing after a slow start to the season, and they will be bringing an undefeated conference record into The Duke on Saturday. It’s hard to believe that we have already made it to the last regular season home game of the year. Please come out and show this Senior class the support and appreciation that they have earned over their time at Grand View. This class has never lost a conference game, and they will be looking to add to that streak on Saturday. We hope to see you there!

Thank you to everyone who was able to come out and support us last Thursday at the “Duke at Dark.” There’s something special about playing underneath the lights, even if it does make for a long day of waiting for kickoff! I can’t say enough about the way that this team came ready to play, 44 – 0 at halftime and we never looked back.
Up next is another conference showdown against Graceland. If you can make it down to the game, we’d love to have another great road crowd. The support that we get when we travel is second to none and we don’t take it for granted.
5 – 0 and ready for Conference play! We are coming off our bye week – a GREAT week for the team to get rested and rejuvenated – and can’t wait for THURSDAY NIGHT. That’s right, our game this week is on THURSDAY. It’s been a long time since we’ve had a night game at The Duke and the team is fired up for it.
I want to say THANK YOU to all of the players from the 2013 squad who showed up for the Hall of Fame induction. It was cool to have them around for the current team to see the legacy that they are following and building upon. The selflessness of the 2013 team is evident in the 2023 Vikings, and I’m excited to see what this TEAM can do in the second half of the season.
